Began construction on a Hilltopper 30 this week. Was in the middle of the " group 1 " bag of capacitors and something did not feel rite. Put on the magnifiers, low and behold the lack of light reflecting off of the surface mount ic's pads was off. Grabbed the WG-30 camera set in in macro mode and started taking photo's. At my age, even with magnification my eyes just dont cut it when looking for surface mount soldering problems. Macro camera to the rescue. U1 and U2 So many times I have to relearn the same lesson over and over. Check each solder joint, carefully. The older I get, that camera's macro function is getting more use. Here's a overall view of the radio's circuit board. I have no idea how many hours of troubleshooting this saved me from. Could I cut it as a radio service tech. ? Not me, not by anyone's standards :) Anyways, here's some pic's of the end results.
